Cyril E. Irvine, Sr., 66, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the University Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa following complications of surgery.

Cyril was born on December 12, 1945 in Mount Vernon, Ohio the son of Ernest J. and Julia M. (Perry) Irvine. He attended school in the Mt. Vernon Schools and was united in marriage to Gloria J. Williams on January 10, 1965 in Buckeye Lake, Ohio. The family moved to Independence, Iowa in 1986. Cyril was employed with SCOA (Shoe Company of America), Wapsi Valley Creamery, and with Pries Aluminum prior to his retirement in 2010.

He is survived by his wife Gloria, four children; Angela (Lain) Slife, Cheryl (David) Close,
Cyril (Seena) Irvine, jr., and Malina (James) Tegmeier, all of Independence, Iowa, fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, his mother and step-father; Julia and George Byer, Newark, OH., a half-brother; Jack Irvine, West Lafayette, OH., and a half-sister; Mary Deulley, Ashland, OH.

He was preceded in death by his father; Ernest J. Irvine, a daughter; Laura Irvine, and a brother; Stanley E. Irvine.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Calvary Evangelistic Center, Independence, IA., with Rev. William Hill officiating with private interment services being held at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence and from 9 am till services Wednesday at the church.
