Obituary for Michael Everett "Mike" Eddy

Michael Everett "Mike"  Eddy
Michael E. Eddy, 55, of Independence, Iowa died Friday evening, November 2, 2012 at his home in Independence.

Michael was born on May 16, 1957, in Independence, Iowa the son of Roberta Karsten and Carl Eddy. He was a 1975 graduate of the Independence High School, and the attended the Upper Iowa University, Fayette, IA, for several years. On December 4, 1977 he married Gwen VanTassell in St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. The couple were later divorced. Mike returned to school and received a culinary arts degree from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA. In 1983 he moved to Aurora, Colorado and owned and operated his own restaurant “Fast Eddy’s”. In 1989 he returned to Independence, Iowa and was employed as a chef with several area restaurants.

He is survived by two daughters; Amanda Eddy Davies, Tampa, FL., and Chelsea Eddy, Waverly, IA., a granddaughter; Phoenix Davies, Tampa FL, his parents; Roberta Hoskins and Carl Eddy of Independence, IA, three sisters; Barbara (Rick) McFerran, Independence, IA., Susan (Chuck) Keipinger, Reseda, CA, Judy (Scott) Yeoman, Colorado Springs, CO, a brother; Jim Hoskins, Independence, IA, and three half brothers; Shawn Eddy, Independence, IA., Scott Eddy, Chariton, IA, and Brian Eddy, Independence, IA.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Frank and Louise Karsten, his paternal grandparents; Everett and Agnes Eddy, his step-father; Lloyd Hoskins, and a nephew; Stephen Keipinger.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, Iowa. Friends may call from 1 P.M. till services Sunday at the funeral home.
