Kenneth W. Downs, 90, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday evening, April 29, 2017 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.

Kenneth was born on March 13, 1927 in Delhi, Iowa the son of Charles and Pearl Downs. He served in the US Army during World War Two and returned to Independence following his discharge. He married Mary E. Necker on July 4, 1947. The couple made their home in Independence where Kenneth was employed by Wapsi Valley Creamery, served on the Independence Police Department, and worked as a meter reader with the Independence Light and Power Company prior to his retirement.

Ken loved to spend time with his family and friends; he enjoyed fishing, camping and buying cars.
He is survived by a son; Dennis Downs, Frederic, WI, a daughter Galina Wright, Independence, IA one grandchild, Jason Downs, two great grandchildren, Marcus and Jayden Downs, two sisters; Shirley Lichty, Cedar Rapids, IA., Donna Hawkins, Manchester, IA., and a brother; Cecil Downs, Manchester, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Mary, two brothers Don and Bernard Downs, and two sisters, Dorothy Reiger and Betty Gray.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence with Rev. Robert Solon, officiating. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery Independence with grave side Military Services. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday and from 9 to 11 AM Wednesday.
