Darleen M. Hoeg, 92, of Independence, IA died Saturday May, 20 2017 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA.

Darleen was born on January 11, 1925 in Waterloo, IA the daughter of Lester A. and Lena M. (Kingery) Freeland. She married Lorraine Huebner on April 4, 1942 in Waterloo, IA. a few years later she and Lorraine moved to Springfield, MO for work. In 1966 Darleen divorced Lorraine and moved back to Waterloo, IA. On September 9, 1969 she married Albert Hoeg in Waterloo, IA., and later that same year they made their home in Otterville, IA. Darleen worked at the Mental Health Institute, in Independence, IA, as a Dietary Planner from 1969 until her retirement in 1988.

She enjoyed staying busy with her hands, by knitting and crocheting; she also enjoyed reading. She was a proud and active member at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Independence, IA

She is survived by two sons Roger (Vicky) Huebner, Cedar Falls, IA, and Dennis (Margaret) Huebner, St. Peters, MO, a daughter Sharon Thompson, Independence, IA, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. And a sister Vicki Atkins, Waterloo, IA

Darleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, three brothers, Bobby, David and Donald Freeland, two sisters, Doreen Jones, and Dena Smuck, a son-in-law Delwyn Thompson, and a great great grand daughter Lily Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday May 24, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA, Rev. Michael Holmen presiding. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call from 9 until services on Wednesday
