Malachi Ralph "Mick"  Cashen
Malachi R. “Mick” Cashen, 70, of Rowley, Iowa died Monday, June 26, 2017, at his home near Rowley.

Mick was born on November 3, 1946 in Independence, Iowa the son of Ralph H. and Nettie E. (Prindle) Cashen. He was a 1964 graduate of the Independence High School and served with the US Army during the Vietnam War until his discharge in 1966. He returned to the Independence area and married Linda K. Stacey on August 10, 1967 in Jesup, Iowa. He was employed with John Deere Company in Waterloo, Iowa before moving to Poplar Bluff, Missouri where he constructed Butler Buildings for three years prior to returning to Independence, IA. In June of 1984 he became employed with the Mental Health Institute in Independence as a 1st groundskeeper and a master plumber for 29 years until his retirement in 2009.

Mick loved spending time with his family fishing, camping and woodworking. He even built his own home where they currently live.

He was a member of the Buchanan County Wildlife Association, and the Masonic Lodge.

Mick is survived by his wife of 49 years Linda K. Cashen, Rowley, Iowa, two daughters; Brenda Lee Cashen, Independence, Iowa and Lora Lee (Chris) Cashen Baker, Stanwood, Iowa. Five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a brother; John Cashen, Independence, IA, and a sister; Marilyn A. Summers, Independence, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary Louise Linsley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be held in the Wilson Cemetery, Independence, with full military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Thursday in the funeral home where a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 PM Thursday.
