Obituary for Doris Eileen Butters (Dallenbach)
Doris E. Butters, 88, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday evening, July 25, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa.
Doris was born on April 10, 1929 in Palmer, Iowa the daughter of David and Gladys (Barnes) Dallenbach. She moved to the Maynard, Iowa area with her family and graduated from the West Central High School with the class of 1946. On April 15, 1948, she married Garland Trower. The couple later divorced. On October 17,1981, she was married to John J. Butters in Oelwein, Iowa. The couple made their home in Independence, Iowa. Over the years Doris was employed with Super Value, Ben Franklin Department Store in Oelwein and when she moved to Independence she purchased and operated the Dora’s North End Tap in Independence until her retirement. Doris also volunteered at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Independence for over 25 years.
She is survived by four children; Phyllis (Laverne) Decker, Aurora, IA., Jacquie (Ralph) Heinze, Fairbank, IA., Don (Kathy) Trower, Dubuque, IA., and Barb Trower, Maynard, IA. Three step-children; Karen (David) Dubbeld, Wausau, IN., Bruce (Debbie) Butters, and Dawn Meek both of Independence, IA. Ten grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, twelve step grandchildren, and thirteen step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2007, a daughter; Pam Walker, a step son; Wayne Butters, a sister; Dorothy Betz, and two brothers; Ray and Lowell Dallenbach.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday in the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, with Rev. Robert Solon officiating. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 9 AM to services at the funeral home.
