Obituary for Barbara Sue "Barb" Smith (Ryan)
Barbara S. Smith, 83, Osceola, IA formerly of Independence, IA died Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola, IA.
Barbara was born April 27, 1934, in Masonville, IA, the daughter of Merritt and Mildred (May) Ryan. She was a 1952 graduate Manchester High School, Manchester, IA, and married Ray Demuth in 1955 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo, IA. Ray died in 1992. She later married Cecil Smith and the couple later divorced. Barbara was employed with Rath Packing Company, Waterloo Saving Bank, and Jack & Jill Grocery Store.
She volunteered with the Food Pantry for 24 years and as a Senior Campion at East Town Care Center. She enjoyed baking cakes, stock car races, fishing; loved to volunteer and loved her children most of all.
Surviving are her children Tom Demuth of Paynesville, MN, Deb Cunningham of Yorkville, IL, Bill Demuth of Webster City, IA, Liz Hunt of Ft. Meyers, FL, Paul Demuth of Waterloo, IA, Ray Demuth of Des Moines, IA, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a brother Mike McElliott of Chicago, IL.
Preceded her in death are her parents, husband Ray, sisters, Anna May Corrigan, Norma Jean Wilson, Mary Rita Pringle, and brothers Ed McElliott, Paul McElliott,
Memorial Services will be held Saturday February 24, 2018 at 1 PM in the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory Independence, IA, with visitation from 11am until services. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Masonville, IA
