Elva May  Prenosil (Meggers)
Elva May (Meggers) Prenosil, 99, of Independence died of natural causes February 27, 2018 at Lexington Estates. She was born July 20, 1918 eleven miles south of Independence at Hamerville, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Meggers and Kathryn (Murphy) Meggers. She married Joseph Arnold Prenosil on July 5, 1941 at Spencer’s Grove Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on July 8, 1982.

She is survived by a sister, Pat (Bud) Axline, two daughters, Tamara Jo Prenosil (M. Frank Potter) of Dubuque, and Mary Jean Prenosil (Neil C. Kruempel) of Cedar Falls, and three grandsons: Clark Prenosil Potter, Ross (Katie) Prenosil Potter, and Joseph (Tracy) Prenosil Kruempel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister (Jean Kimmerle), and three brothers (Donald, Verle and Jack Meggers).

Elva worked at the Produce in Independence until her daughters were born. She enjoyed sewing and needlework, the company of her family, friends and neighbors, and was as avid reader.

A visitation will be held March 3, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM followed by internment services 10:30 AM Saturday March 3rd at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the Spencer’s Grove Church Restoration Association.
