Mark R. Miller, 57 of Independence, IA died Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his home.

He was born on March 26, 1961, in Orange County, CA, the son of Gerald and Beverly (Hewitt) Miller. He was a 1979 graduate of Independence High School. After High School he enlisted in to the United States Army, where he served with the Military Police until his discharge in 1982. Mark went on to receive a certificate in truck driving from Hawkeye Tech in 1986. He married the love of his life, Darla K. Scott, on August 25, 1989 at the Buchanan County Court House. For the past 15 years he worked as a driver for Benjamins Express in Waterloo, IA.

Mark was a member of the Independence Pool League and also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends and family. He and his son James would go to the movies every two weeks to catch up and spend time together. Most of all though he enjoyed his grandchildren. Spending time with them, being woken up by them, or just sitting and reading with them.

He is survived by his wife Darla Miller, Independence, IA, his children; Paula Modlin, Independence, IA, Samantha (Dean) Koontz, La Porte City, IA, Tiffany (Preston) Anfinson, Oelwein, IA, James Miller, Cedar Falls, IA, his grandchildren; Charlotte Keller, Alison Koontz, Sophea Anfinson, Mea Anfinson, Justin Anfinson, his brothers; Todd Miller, Independence, IA Wade (Deana) Miller, Independence, IA, a sister-in-law Joelene Miller, Independence, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters; Lori Williams and Paula Miller, 6 grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA, with Pastor Robert Solon Officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday one hour before the service.
