Jasper J. Overmann, 14, of Independence, IA died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA.

He was born on August 2, 2003, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Scott D. Overmann & Brittany N. Straw. He attended the Independence Community Schools, and recently graduated the Drivers Education Program. When he was younger he participated in wrestling and studied Tae Kwon Do. He was an avid swimmer and spent a lot of time at the Independence Public Pool. He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed making people laugh.

Jasper is survived by his parents; Scott D. Overmann, Independence, IA, and Brittany N. Straw, Independence, IA, a brother, Dominick Knowles, Independence, IA and a sister Brittney Cummings, CA, paternal grandmother; Teresa Morris, maternal grandparents; Kathy (Rod) Kern and John (Micki) Straw, paternal great grandparents, Marvin and Beverly Morris, maternal great grandparents Karl and Maxine Ransom, Barbara (Toni) Straw, and Richard Salzwedel, five uncles; Jacob Straw, TJ (Lauren) Phillips, Shea (Carrie) Phillips, Troy (Dawn) Vargeson, and Justin (Chealsi) Klein, eight aunts, Brooke (Joshua) Speed, Rian Phillips, Justice Straw, Bridget Kern, Andrea (Carl Escue) Kern, Amanda Smith, Jenny (Tim) Cappel, and Michelle Klein, and many cousins, and special friend Brooke Baez

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Deitrick Overmann, and his maternal great grandparents; Dorothy Salzwedel and Jack Straw, and Paternal grandmother; Winniferd Overmann.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the Reiff Family Center in Independence, IA, with Rev Sue Ann Raymond officiating. Burial will be held at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery in Jesup, IA. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 PM on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Reiff Family Center in Independence.
