Obituary for Douglas Dean Wubben

Douglas Dean  Wubben
Douglas D. Wubben, 64, of Independence, IA died Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA.

He was born on June 10, 1954, in Buffalo Center, IA, the son of Donald G. and Wilma E. (VanHove) Wubben. In 1964 his family moved to Independence, IA and opened the A&W. He was a 1972 graduate of Jefferson High School in Independence and later that year he started working as a machinist for John Deere in Waterloo, IA, On April 16, 1983 he married Christa L. Anderson at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, IA. In 1985, he started Wubben Auctioneering out of his home in Independence, and helped many organizations raise funds throughout the years by holding charity auctions. After 36 years of service to the John Deere Co. Doug retired in 2008. He was a Member of the Local UAW 838, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited.

Doug enjoyed staying busy with his hands, and always had a project he was working on. He worked on cars and pontoons in his spare time. In 1999 he built his family home in rural Independence, with the help of his children. He also loved the outdoors and would take fishing trips with his family often.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Christa Wubben, Independence, IA, his children; Tanya (John) Greiner, Independence, IA, Samantha Stelter, Independence, IA, Jared Wubben, Denver, IA, and Erica Wubben, Waterloo, IA; five grandchildren, and his faithful companion, a chocolate lab, Ruby.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Donald Wubben, his mother and step-father Wilma and Garret DeWaard, and a brother, Russell G. Wubben.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday July 19, 2018, at the Reiff Family Center, Independence, IA. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA. Visitation will be on Wednesday July 18, 2018, from 4 PM until 8 at the Reiff Family Center, Independence, IA.
