Kathryn A. “Kay” Neidy, 68, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday evening, August 17th, 2014 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.

Kay was born on September 20, 1945 the daughter of Dale C. and Virgie I. (Peterson) Neidy. She was a 1964 graduate of the Independence High School, She became employed with the Mental Health Institute in Independence as a Secretary and later as an Income Maintenance Worker, working for 43 years prior to her retirement on December 21, 2007.

Kay was a great volunteer, volunteering with the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary, serving on their board and as coordinator of volunteers. She also loved to volunteer at the Buchanan County Senior Citizen Center, and the NE Iowa Council on Aging Board. She was also very active in the Red Hats Group.

She is survived by a sister; Dolores I. (Larry) Roman, Cedar Rapids, IA, a nephew Douglas Roman, Cedar Rapids, IA, a niece Nina (Greg) Simmons, Quasqueton and a great niece and nephew; Alissa and Jacob Lewis of Quasqueton, IA.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Virgie Neidy.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, at the First United Methodist Church, Independence with Rev. Scott Meador, officiating. Burial will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop, IA. Friends may call from 2 to 6 PM Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA and from 9AM till services Thursday at the church.
