Charles D. Greathouse, 84, of Independence, Iowa and formerly of the Fort Collins, CO died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Lexington Estates, in Independence, Iowa.

Charles was born on January 1, 1931 in Traer, IA the son of Harry J. and Nellie F. (Widner) Greathouse. He was a graduate of Volga High School, Volga, IA. He joined the U.S. Navy on January 15, 1951, and served proudly throughout the Korean War. After being discharged from the Navy he made his home in Davenport, before moving to Ft. Collins, CO in 1974. In January of 2014 he moved to Independence, IA. Muriel Stepp has been a lifelong friend of Charles.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nellie Greathouse, and his siblings Robert Greathouse, Mary Lankford, James Greathouse, and Jerry Greathouse.

Charles is survived by Muriel Stepp, Independence, IA, three step- children Jeff Stepp, Brownsboro, TX, and Heidi Puffett, Independence, IA, Paul Tieszen, Johnston, IA, two step-grandchildren Candice Mullnix, and Brock Puffett, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
