Helen I. Nollen, 86, of Independence, Iowa, died Monday morning, May 2, 2016, at the Lexington Estates Care Center in Independence, Iowa.
Helen was born on August 17, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Margaret (Hendricks) Baker. On January 19, 1948 she married Kenneth M. Nollen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, IA. The couple resided in Harlan, and Tennant, Iowa before moving to Independence, Iowa in 1966.
Helen enjoyed gardening, playing cards with her friends, bowling and spending time with her family.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the St. John’s Rosary Society,
Helen is survived by three children; William Nollen, Clutier, IA., Frances (Brian) Swarts, Independence, IA, Terry Nollen, Belle Plaine, IA., ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth in 2013 and her son; Michael in 2006. Four half-brothers and three half-sisters.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, Mary 5, 2016 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 AM Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 4 P.M. Wednesday.
