Obituary for Ruth Marlys Lehs (Poock)

Ruth Marlys  Lehs (Poock)
Ruth Marlys Lehs, 94, of Winthrop, IA, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA.

Ruth was born on August 6, 1922 in Klinger, IA, the daughter of Theodore J. and Amelia S. (Herman) Poock. She attended the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Parochial School in Klinger, IA, and worked for many years in her family’s grocery store in Klinger, IA. On December 2, 1951 she married John George Lehs at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger, IA. They made their home in rural Winthrop, IA. She was active in her community and was a past member of the Stanley Elementary PTA, Zion Lutheran Church Women’s Group in Oelwein, IA, Immanuel Lutheran Women’s Group in Independence, IA, and she was a neighborhood volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, embroidering, puzzles, and board games; but it was time spent with her family that she enjoyed most.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years, John, Winthrop, IA, her six children; David (Cathy) Lehs, Independence, IA, Susan (Ron) Oline, Independence, IA, Richard Lehs, Independence, IA, Marsha (Mike Grant) Lehs, Independence, IA, Marlon Lehs, Winthrop, IA, and Timothy (Joan) Lehs, Winthrop, IA. Ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two sisters Norma Bergman, and Darlys Milius, both of Denver, IA, and a brother Arlin Poock, Readlyn, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Florence Everding, and Melba Kuhlmann, and a brother Walter Poock.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, IA, with Pastor Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Garden, Hazleton, IA. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA, and from 9 AM till services Saturday at the church.
