Lila F. Givens, 59, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa.

Lila was born on January 6, 1958 in Independence and was raised by her grandparents; Martin and Florence Gienapp. She graduated from the Independence High School with the class of 1976, and received a degree in English and Journalism from the University of Northern Iowa in 1980. She taught school in McCook, Nebraska for a year prior to returning to Independence, IA., and became employed with the Buchanan Sheriff’s Department as a dispatcher where she worked for 31 years.

She enjoyed reading, playing board games, and cards, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Independence Bowling League.

Lila is survived by a sister; Dawn (Jerry) Behan, Independence, IA., a niece Erin (Dr. Jordan) Imoehl, Madison, Wisconsin, and a nephew; Andrew (Kelley) Behan, Urbandale, IA.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Martin and Florence Gienapp.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA. with Pastor Robert McMurdock, Hospice Chaplin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Wilson Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 10 AM till services Saturday at the funeral home.
