Obituary for Frank Robert Tarpy

Frank R. Tarpy, 83, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday morning, April 30th, 2017 at the Lexington Estates Care Center in Independence, Iowa

Frank was born on May 25, 1933 near Monti, Iowa the son of Francis A. and Mary A. (Zieser) Tarpy. He was a 1950 Graduate of the Troy Mills, High School, and was married to Mary C. VonLehmden on May 20, 1958. He served in the US Army from April 2, 1953 to his discharge on March 29, 1955 at which time he returned to Independence, Iowa. He was employed with; Bill & Don’s 66, Independence, IA., Rath Packing Company, Waterloo, IA., Walnut Grove and Burkhart Ford, Independence, IA. In 1972, he became employed with the Independence Light and Power Company as an equipment operator until his retirement in 1996. In retirement, he worked for Dunlap Motors, United Ag Products, Lynch Farms, Eschen-Tarpy NAPA, and Tarpy Trucking in Independence, IA.

He loved to spend time with his family especially following the grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, and working in the yard. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Iowa State Snowmobiling Association and was a charter member of the Wapsi Snowmobile Club.

Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary K. Tarpy, two sons; Lavern F. (Renee) Tarpy and Mark (Janet) Tarpy all of Independence, IA. Six grandchildren; Serena (Mike) Zwanziger, Carrie Tarpy, Melissa (Andy) Trumbauer, Jason Tarpy, Taryn Tarpy, and Troy Tarpy. Four Great Grandchildren; Kaitlyn and Myah Zwanziger,, Riley & Bently Trumbauer, and one sister; Marie Ann (Bill) Siglin, Ionia, IA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA., with Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence, IA. Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM Wednesday, and from 9 to 10AM Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA. Where a Rosary will be recited at 3 PM, a Military Memorial Service will be held at 7PM and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 8 PM on Wednesday.
