Lois A. Huber passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the age of 92. She was born in Independence, Iowa, to Charles and Ethel (Bice) Bare. Lois married Keith A. Huber from Washington, Iowa, in 1948. Together they raised two daughters, Karen Huber (Kirk Carlson) from Fort Dodge, Iowa; Margaret Huber (Graham Rawle) from London, England. She is survived by two brothers, Keith (Jan) Bare of Emmetsburg, IA; and Norman (Lea) Bare of Kimberling City, MO, and a sister, Margaret Croal of Independence, IA.

Lois graduated from the Iowa State Teacher’s College (University of Northern Iowa) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She studied English, American History and Journalism. During her senior year she was the editor of her college year book, OLD GOLD, and managing editor of the ALUMNUS, and the UNI Alumni Magazine.
Lois was employed as a teacher throughout her life. After attending the University of Iowa for graduate level courses in Special Education, she began working with the mentally challenged and developmentally disabled children and their families in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

having grown up with a family of readers, Lois once admitted as a child she was fond of sneaking off with a book to avid doing her chores. No surprise that every room in her home was a library. She loved to read and was knowledgeable about a variety of subjects. Once while visiting her daughter and son-in-law in the UK they said she clearly knew more about England's history than they did.

Her fondness for post-it notes was evident to anyone who received a gift, photo, or newspaper clipping. All correspondence was documented with layers and layers on information. her home was filled with furniture she either repaired,refinished or reupholstered; and bought an upright piano that might have been taken to the dump had it not been for her willingness and ability to restore it. She took it apart, refinished the pieces and resembled the piano. In ever endeavor she was meticulous. The dolls she made wore clothes that were sewn with linings.

Lois A. Huber was a teacher, a traveler, artist and craftsman, fiercely independent, She was the architect of her own life.She was wise counsel. But most importantly, she was a loving mother and supportive friend to many.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Nelson, and a brother, Gifford Bare.
