Mildred Lousie  Potts (Van Horn)
Mildred L. Potts, 93, of Independence, IA died Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Lexington Estates in Independence, IA.

Mildred was born August 5, 1924, in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of John W. and Rose E. (Fosse) Van Horn. She attended the Des Moines School District and graduated from Des Moines High School. She moved to Independence, IA with her family after graduating High School, where she met the love of her life, Archie Dale Potts. They were married on June 5, 1948 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, IA. Throughout her life she worked for the Independence School District, People’s Hospital, the Mental Health Institute, and USDA Farm Services Agency in Independence, IA.

Music was a large part of her life. As a child she accompanied her brother on the violin. And for many years she played the organ at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.

She is survived by a son Dale (Susan) Potts, Janesville, MN, a daughter Janice (Kevin) Thedens, Denver, IA, a son-in-law Richard Krempges, Independence, IA, her grandchildren Melissa Henschel, Kari Harford, Mackenzie Grondahl, Jessi Phillips, Rosie Hansen, and Kathleen Holden, and eight great grandchildren.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, husband Archie Potts, a brother Francois “Frank” Van Horn, and a daughter Nancy Krempges.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, IA, with Rev Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 PM until 6 PM on Sunday February 25, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA.
