Thomas W. McNamara, 80, of Independence, IA died Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, IA.

He was born on September 30, 1937, in Masonville, IA, the son of John and Marian (Caridas) McNamara. He is a graduate of St. John’s Catholic School in Independence, IA, and attended Gates Business College in Cedar Rapids, IA. On January 30, 1957 he enlisted into the United States Army and served proudly until his discharge in 1959. After returning from the military he married Marie Lodge and later was married to Karen Grau. Tom worked for many years as a salesman for Colonial Bakery, Cedar Rapids, IA, and later for Hach Brothers Janitorial Supply in Waterloo, IA.

He is survived by his children, Lynn McNamara-Fuller, Independence, IA, Dana Blackledge, Eau Claire, WI, Michelle Neverman, Marion, IA, Kelli (Brett) Hasler, Hiawatha, IA, and Shannon Smith, South Korea, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a sister Joann Pentecost.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Eddie McNamara, and a sister Judith McGrath.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday April 2, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA, with Pastor Phil Rodgers officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Urbana, IA. Friends may visit from 9 AM until services on Monday morning.
