Obituary for Donna Rae Wehner (Ewing)

- Donna R. (Ewing) Wehner, 70, of Independence, IA died on Saturday March 13, 2021 at ABCM Rehabilitation Center – West Campus in Independence.

Donna was born on February 1, 1951 in Virogua, WI the daughter of Clyde G. and Patricia R. (Crook) Ewing. Her family moved to Independence, IA in 1953 where she attended the Independence Community Schools until the tenth grade. In 1967 the Ewing family moved back to Wisconsin making their home in Readstown. She was a 1969 graduate of the Kickapoo High School in Viola, WI. On July 25, 1970 Donna married Robert W. Hughes, together they made their home in Independence, IA, and raised two sons together. Donna worked for Triangle Plastics in Winthrop, IA; before working as a dietary aid at the Peoples Hospital in Independence. Robert’s family owned the Maid-Rite in Independence and Donna spent many hours working there. Robert and Donna later divorced in 1990. She later married Bruce Wehner on July 4, 1997 in Readstown, WI. Donna worked for several years at the Pizza Hut and Bill’s Pizza in independence. They lived together in Independence until their divorce in 2017.

Donna loved doing Crosswords and Sudoku. She wanted to keep her mind sharp which helped tremendously with her lovable sarcastic personality.

She is survived by her sons; John (Heather) Hughes, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Robert (Jenny) Hughes Jr., Independence, IA, three grandchildren; Kaitlin, Alyssa, and Lauren Hughes, three brothers; Lyle, Ken, and Robert Ewing all of Readstown, WI, and many nieces and nephews.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Patricia Ewing, and two brothers Michael “Lee”, and Roger Ewing.
