Dorothy was born on July 31, 1939 in her family farmhouse on the South Table in rural Oshkosh, Nebraska, the daughter of Virgil A. and Ada L. (Melius) Younglund. She was a 1957 graduate of Garden County High School in Oshkosh, NE, and later moved to Lincoln, NE to attend Beauty School. She married the love of her life, Lawrence E. In 1984 she moved to Larned, KS to be with her daughter and grandchildren. She moved back to Oshkosh, NE in 1994 to take care of her Stepfather Richard Quelle.

She enjoyed staying busy and was a skilled baker, baking wedding cakes, making jellies, and canning food for family and friends. She was active member of the Oshkosh community, and volunteered with the local museums, the senior center, and with the Raptor Release Organization.
