Obituary for Kenneth Charles Knebel

Kenneth C. Knebel, 72, of Independence, IA died Monday, May 27, 2019 at Unity Point – Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA following a long battle with cancer.

He was born on June 22, 1946 at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo, IA; the son of Ralph and Gorgonia “Gonie” (Nolte) Knebel. He was raised in Jesup, IA, and was a 1964 graduate of Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, IA. On June 12, 1971 he married Janice Marie Seemann at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, IA. They made their home in Jesup, IA for a short time before purchasing their home in rural Independence, IA. Kenneth worked in manufacturing at John Deere’s for 33 years; he proudly retired on July 30, 1998. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union 848.

Kenneth was an avid reader and was known to read the paper every day. He enjoyed taking care of his property and was proud of how his lawn looked. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and watching his granddaughters grow up.

Kenneth is survived by his children; Debora (Chris) Whitman, Independence, IA, and Rod Knebel, West Des Moines, IA, two granddaughters; Shayanne Marie and Dakota “Kota” Mae Whitman, Independence, IA. Two brothers; Marvin Knebel, FL, and Dennis Knebel Santa Fe, NM.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Gonie Knebel, and his wife of thirty-four years, Janice Knebel.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday May 31, 2019, at Reiff Family Center in Independence, IA, with Sharon Bainbridge officiating. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 8 PM Thursday May 30, 2019 at the Reiff Family Center in Independence, IA.
