Obituary for Rhoda Ellen Van Gaalen (Nolen)

Rhoda Ellen  Van Gaalen (Nolen)
Rhoda E. Van Gaalen, 64 of Independence, Iowa died Sunday afternoon, September 23, 2012 at her home in Independence, Iowa

Rhoda was born on July 12, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of John Nolen and Muriel Rhodes. She moved with her family to Independence, Iowa. On August 12, 1989 she was married to Robert D. Van Gaalen in Independence where the couple made their home. Rhoda was employed as a waitress with Cathie’s Restaurant, the R & R Café, Two Brothers Restaurant, Devon’s on the Dam, and Geoffrey’s Tea Room prior to her retirement.

She is survived by a daughter; Heather (Tim) Walztoni, Independence, Iowa five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two sisters; Marian Fitzer, Jesup, Iowa and Linda Miller, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Robert VanGaalen.

Rhoda’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 10 A.M. Saturday, October 8, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Kurt Bockoven officiating. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA. The family will receive friends from 9 A.M. till services Saturday at the church.
