James T. Donnelly, 88, of Winthrop, Iowa died Friday morning, December 28, 2012, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Jim was born on October 30, 1924, in Independence, Iowa the son of Bernard and Josie (McGrath) Donnelly. He was a 1943 graduate of the Independence High School and was united into marriage to Maxine Brace in Independence, Iowa. The couple made their home in Independence where Jim and his brother operated a Tire Shop. In 1966 the family moved to Winthrop, Iowa where he owned and operated the Jims Tire Shop for fifty years and the Jim Golf Carts for ten years prior to his retirement.

Jim was past president of the Winthrop Commercial Club, the Winthrop Golf Club, was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years in Independence and Winthrop, and a former member of the Winthrop City Council.

He is survived by a daughter Susan Thimmesch of Winthrop, Iowa five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and two brothers; John Donnelly, Vinton, Iowa and Leo Donnelly, Independence, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine in 1996, two sons in infancy, one grandson, a great grandson, a step-daughter Joan Quint, and three brothers; William, Raymond, and Leonard Donnelly.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 31, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Winthrop, Iowa with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 6 PM Sunday, , and from 9 AM till 10 AM Monday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Winthrop, Iowa where a rosary will be recited at 3 PM Sunday.
