Delwyn L. Thompson, 71, of Independence, Iowa, died Sunday evening June 23, 2013, at his home.

Delwyn was born on June 22, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Delwyn and Leona (Neidert) Thompson. He was raised in Waterloo, Iowa where he attended McKinstry Schools. He married Sharon Huebner on September 4, 1964 in Preston, MN. The family made their home in Independence, where he owned and operated Del’s Auto Salvage. He later was employed with the Reilly Construction Company for 15 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family horseback riding and camping. He also loved his Lotto tickets.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, two sons, Delwin (Shelley) Thompson, Independence, IA, and Thomas (Nikki) Thompson, Independence, IA, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a brother Dennis (Carol) Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, DeWayne Thompson, and David Thompson.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at the Reiff Funeral home & Crematory, with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Friends may call from 10 AM to 1 PM Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, Iowa.
