Donald F. Schoenfield, 84, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday, May 9th, 2017 at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center’s west campus in Independence, Iowa.

Don was born on July 17, 1932 in New Hampton, Iowa the son of Franklin B. and Dora A. (Ross) Schoenfield. He graduated with the class of 1950 from the Iona High School, Ionia, Iowa Following his graduation he moved to the Waterloo, Iowa area and became employed with the Rath Packing Company. On October 16, 1954 he was married to Bonita L. Titus in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa and the couple made their home in Evansdale, Iowa prior to moving to Littleton, Iowa where he owned and operated the Littleton Saw Shop. In 1973 the couple moved to Independence, Iowa. Don retired from Rath Packing in 1982

Don loved to spend time with his family, camping, riding bicycles, and making various woodworking projects with the grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Bonita L. Schoenfield, Independence, IA, a son; Rick (Wendy) Schoenfield, Independence, IA, two grandchildren; Alex Schoenfield and Sherry (Kevin) Wulfekuhle, and a great grandson Joseph Wulfekuhle.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Sherry L. Schoenfield, a sister; Hazel Bray, and a brother; Merle Schoenfield.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA where friends may call from 10:30 to services Friday.
