Favorite memories of Grandpa O
Grandpa O was such a great role model in my life. I learned from him early on to be able to pay for the things I wanted...with cash, not plastic. I never heard him speak disrespectfully to someone. The relationship that Grandma and him had was a model for which I always hoped my marriage would be, from the signs of affection with a pat on the tush to the comments of how Grandpa liked Grandma in short shorts or dangly earrings. No matter what their age was they took into account how the other would feel, being joined as one under God.
There are so many memories. I enjoyed bicycle trips to Otterville, stopping by during the summer to watch a little "The Young and the Restless", having Grandpa pass me $20 and saying " don't tell Grandma" (hope this doesn't count as breaking our secret), going fishing with them at their cabin on the Mississippi and sitting on a bee on their boat and having Grandpa tell me to put Panther, our cat, under the tire of his car when he left so he could back over him (even if he didn't like cats I knew he wouldn't do it).
It will be hard to come back to Iowa and visit without witnessing a game of 500 going on that he is a part of. I am truly blessed to have had Grandpa O as a part of my life and a voice in my head as I continue my journey among the living.
