Marie Collette Doan, 77, of Independence, IA died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, IA.

Collette was born on February 22, 1940 in Independence, Iowa the daughter of Raephael and Astrid M. (Anderson) Burr. She was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson High School, Independence, IA, and on October 11, 1958 she married the love of her life, Gary Doan, at St. John’s Catholic Church. They made their home in Independence, where Collette worked for Ace Hardware. In 1966 they started Gary Doan’s OK Body Shop/Ski-Doo where Collette worked as the bookkeeper until 2009. She enjoyed spending her winters at her home in Bonita Springs, FL, and her summers in Independence, IA

She enjoyed golfing, and was a member of River Ridge Golf Course in Independence, and the Bonita Bay Golf Course in Bonita Springs, FL.

She is survived by her two children Aaron (Sue) Doan, Independence, IA, and Sheila (Todd) Ogden, Naples, FL. Three grandchildren, Alexa (David Berns) Doan, Independence, IA, and Scott and Kayla Ogden, Naples, FL. A great grandchild, Kyle Berns, a sister, Cate (Ed) Bigler, Nashville, TN, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Burr, Phoenix, AZ.

Collette was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary in 2008, and a brother Jim Burr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA, with Pastor Greg DeBoer officiating with burial in the Wilson Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Thursday and from 9 AM until services Friday at the Funeral Home in Independence, IA.
