Obituary

Marvin D. Thompson, 80, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden, IL.

Marvin was born on September 24, 1939 near Center Point, Iowa; the son of Carl A. and Marguerite D. (Carsner) Thompson. He was a 1959 graduate of Quasqueton High School. On August 23, 1960 he was united into marriage to Sharon A. Nelson and the couple farmed near Independence. Marvin later furthered his education in the 1970’s and received his Electrical Contracting Certification from Hawkeye Tech. in Waterloo, IA. He went on to construct houses in the Independence area. Following his retirement, he went on to sell cars.

Marvin enjoyed camping and woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by three children; Kerry (Cherri) Thompson, O’Fallon, IL, Kim (Janelle) Thompson, West Des Moines, IA, and Melanie (Thompson) Chorzempa, Tampa, FL, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister; Carol (Ralph) Jones, Independence, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon, a sister; Maureen Neilsen and a brother; Melvin Thompson.

Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic a private graveside service will be held in the Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, IA, to be followed by a Celebration of Life Service at a later date. Kim, Kerri and Melanie and spouses - We were sad to hear that Marvin had passed away. As an in-law he was always funny and friendly to me. I know that Terry has nothing but good memories. Please accept our sincerest condolences. You all will be in our prayers.

So sorry for your loss. I hope all of u find yourselves well during this very trying time. Your Dad came into Wolfeys in Quasky several times for supper. It was obvious his health was declining. Sorry for your loss
